EMDR Therapy

Effective, Fast-Acting, and Holisitc Approach

What is Trauma?

“Little t” trauma includes experiences that cause significant distress but may not be life-threatening. Examples of these types of trauma can include: negative comments that decrease self-esteem, witnessing a close friend or loved one suffering, a pet passing away, loss of a friendship or romantic relationship, and/or non life-threatening illness or injury.

“Big T” Trauma refers to experiences of either a single-life threatening event or compounding events that happen multiple times. Examples of this type of trauma include: loss of friends or family, life threatening illness, acts of violence, abuse, natural disasters, childbirth, bullying.

What is EMDR?

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based powerful therapy that can help you move from feeling stuck in the past to feeling more connected to and grounded in the present.

It is an effective, fast-acting, holistic approach which reduces emotional distress and empowers you to gain control over your thoughts and feelings, leading to self-discovery and resilience.

EMDR addresses the root causes of anxiety, PTSD, trauma, and other emotional issues, rather than just treating symptoms. This holistic approach can lead to lasting change.

EMDR is non-invasive and is one of the gold standard treatments for trauma issues. Eye movements in an EMDR session help to activate the processing part of the brain (prefrontal cortex) and reduce the intensity and feelings connected to traumatic memories. EMDR therapy does not require a detailed recounting of traumatic events and follows a structured protocol, which provides a sense of safety and direction during therapy, making it easier for clients to engage in the process.

EMDR Intensives

Short on time? Needing EMDR Counseling?

EMDR Intensives are as-needed Half-Day or Full-Day sessions designed to help you re-process painful memories and experiences. EMDR Intensives help you to experience healing without having to fully recount distressing experiences.

Are EMDR Intensives right for you?

Intensives are designed for professionals and/or anyone unable to commit to ongoing weekly sessions and those who are seeking quicker relief from trauma.

These sessions condense weekly EMDR sessions into a shorter period of time, which can result in a faster resolution of trauma.

What is the format for Intensives?

Tailored to you. But most common formats are:

  • A Half-Day session

  • Full-Day session(s)

What are the prerequisites for Intensives?

Completion of an initial intake session in which your therapist assesses the appropriateness for EMDR/EMDR Intensive. This session may include crisis assessment, initial preparation, and potentially an initial treatment plan.
